To do this, just follow only the following steps:
  1. you Invite here the Firefox addon Foxter of lovinglinux (the download link is right below). After you've installed the addon, Firefox restarts
  2. clicks After restarting Firefox, it within the browser once the right to open the context menu.

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  3. There you select the entry: Foxter
  4. Then the window Foxter Preferences

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  5. opens where changes their entry "Watched Folder" on a test folder, then find your FireFox files that are loaded in a later step, are stored. It makes sense to a folder in your home

directory firefox_testing in my example. To let her rest as it and close this window.
  6. Next, let us invite the Firefox beta and check the MD5 sum.
  7. We click again right in your browser, select Foxter -> Browse FTP Directory and hand over hand through the directory structure to the desired version of Firefox (in order to shorten the current beta: x86 ftp://ftp.mozilla .org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/4.0b6/linux-i686/de / , 64-bit: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/4.0 b6/linux-x86_64/de / )
  8. the tar.bz2 file contained there, we save in the folder that we described above as Watched Folder have. complete - (With a right click> save target as ..)
  9. After the download is it the start neu.Nun Firefox, we check the MD5 sum, to be sure that we have downloaded the file correctly.
  10. Simply open this file and looking out the MD5 sum of the download. (On the right is the exact file name and folder, left the MD5 sum)
  11. We copy the MD5 sum, and then right again -> Foxter -> Check File and then select our newly downloaded file. Quick checks whether the file is okay (MD5 matched) or not containing.
  12. Is everything all right, we can now this file using our popular right click -> Foxter -> Install and our downloaded file. Now is also already installed the beta:) does not get any faster.
  13. Now we can start the version in which we right click -> select Foxter and start the menu item Launch . opens early in a new window with the new Firefox (showing up on the title bar: "Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 6)
  14. one wants now this beta use with its current profile, you can generate them naturally set as the default given by the right. Click -> Foxter -. / Default select and choose where your version, it is a security question, whether Will you have the Firefox and really after him
     / opt
want to install. This just confirms it, and then open a console window. This window not close, but if a request to enter the sudo password is, enter it. It then installed the beta for Firefox
     / opt
and then starts when Firefox 4.0 beta 6 again.
  15. Should you at some point no longer wish to use the beta, so you can return to the original Ubuntu Changeover contacts, in which her (you guessed it) right click -> Foxter -> Revert to Original chooses.

After this tutorial you should now run on Firefox 4.0 beta 6 have.

Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat (10.10) - complete

Hi,
today even a small report about the upgrade (yes, an upgrade, not new installation) of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat):
I'm just using the key combination ALT + F2 the command "update-manager-d" and the upgrade started. When you upgrade Picasa and some others were, to me unimportant, deleted libs. The whole upgrade has geaduert with my AMD 2200 + (1.5 Ghz), about 4 hours, but ran through without any major difficulties. The upgrade I have done already to RC times (On Friday;)) and had to say is that the nvidia-96 Driver runs with the new Xorg server 1.9 not . On the part of NVIDIA says that it is working on the nvidia driver -96. I'd best hope that it will work soon. An alternate driver displays the user Ubuntuforums.org christian.remboldt in this thread .

In short, one should do the following:
  1. delete all nvidia drivers
     sudo apt-get purge nvidia *
  2. the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
    install driver
     sudo apt-get install xserver -xorg-video-nouveau
  3. The new Xorg Server, you need not really change much from the xconf.org

. The following minimal configuration is sufficient completely:

     Section "Device"
    Identifier "Configured Video Device"
    Driver "nouveau" EndSection

    Section "Monitor" Identifier
    "Configured Monitor" EndSection

    Section "Screen" Identifier
    " Default Screen "
    Monitor" Configured Monitor "
    Device" Configured Video Device "EndSection
    up
  4. restart and run for the GNOME menu

For the free NVIDIA driver. But now comes the icing from the post above: The 3D support. This is not officially supported by nouveau, but it seems to go (for me, but the aforementioned User): Simply download the file

nouveau_vieux_dri.so and after
 / usr / lib / dri / nouveau_vieux_dri.so
copy.
 sudo cp / path / where / is file / / nouveau_vieux_dri.so / usr / lib / dri / nouveau_vieux_dri.so

This should then run the desktop effects. Happy testing:)
